
Pratt, Kan. - The Pratt Community College men's and women's basketball teams return to action this evening, Wednesday, Jan. 8 for the first time since December 14. Both teams will face the Red Ravens of Coffeyville Community College on the road in Coffeyville, Kan.
The women's team finished their fall 2024 schedule with an overall record of 6-7 and a conference record of 1-6. The team's only conference win came against Fort Hays Tech Northwest on December 11 65-57. Freshman LaKyra Johnson leads the team with 13.5 points per game and 7.2 rebounds per game heading into the new year.
The Red Ravens enter the contest with an overall record of 10-3 and 5-3 in conference play. Coffeyville has defeated Fort Hays Tech Northwest, Colby Community College, Independence, Garden City Community College, and Cowley College. They opened their spring 2025 schedule with a loss at Butler Community College. Sophomores Norkia Welch and Karys Washington are the players to watch. Welch averages 11.4 points per game while Washington averages 11.2 points and 9.2 rebounds per game.
On the men's side the Beavers finished 2024 with a three-game winning streak against Barton Community College, Fort Hays Tech Northwest, and Colby Community College to enter the holiday break with an 8-5 overall record and a 4-3 conference record. Sophomores Jarrett Dingle, Khasen Robinson, Hunter Vaughn, and Joseph Opareke are currently averaging over ten points per game for the Beavers. Opareke leads the team with 7.4 rebounds per game.
The 11-3 Coffeyville Red Ravens are currently ranked No. 23 in the NJCAA poll and have a 7-1 conference record. The team's only conference loss was against Cowley College back on December 14. Coffeyville picked up their first win of the new year on January 4th against Butler Community College. Both Justin Taylor and Brian Griffith average 14 points per game with the team averaging 81.4 points a game.
