
No. 2 Ranked Men's Basketball Opens Season with Dominant Win over Jamestown
The No. 2 ranked Herkimer College Men's Basketball Team kicked off their season with an impressive win, taking down Division II Jamestown Community College 89-56 in their home opener on Saturday.
The Generals showed their strength early, building an 11-point lead by halftime and never looked back, finishing with a 33-point victory.
Sophomore Tajuan Thomas led the way for Herkimer with a standout performance, scoring 23 points on 11-of-18 shooting. He also grabbed seven rebounds and added an assist, steal, and block to his stat line. Kenny Freeman was a force off the bench, contributing 20 points while shooting an incredible 8-for-9 from the field, along with seven rebounds, six blocks, two assists, and two steals.
Oladele Oladitan chipped in with a double-double, scoring 16 points, dishing out a team-high eight assists, and pulling down 10 rebounds. Jayson McGhee and AJ Burnett and added 10 and five points respectively, rounding out the scoring efforts for the Generals.
Herkimer's defense was relentless, dominating the glass with 45 rebounds compared to just 15 for Jamestown. They also forced 20 turnovers, showcasing their aggressive and disciplined approach on defense. On the offensive end, the team moved the ball well, racking up 18 assists.
The Generals' shooting was on point, hitting 51.4% of their shots (38-of-74). From three-point range, both teams struggled a bit, with Herkimer and Jamestown each making five threes on 26.3% shooting. At the free-throw line, Herkimer went 8-for-11, finishing at 72.7%.
Jamestown fought hard but couldn't match Herkimer's intensity. They shot 41.7% from the field and matched Herkimer's three-point percentage at 26.3%, but the disparity in rebounds and turnovers told the story. Despite hitting 11 of 13 free throws (84.6%), Jamestown simply couldn't keep pace.
