Cape Fear vs Pensacola State
Cape Fear loses 2-1
Highlights: In an exhausting battle for the South Atlantic District Championship, the Cape Fear Community College Women's Soccer team narrowly fell 2-1 to Pensacola State College. The Sea Devils were caught off guard early in the match, with Pensacola capitalizing on two set pieces within the first five minutes. A direct free kick and a well-placed corner kick put Pensacola up 2-0 before Cape Fear could find their rhythm.
Cape Fear rallied after the early setbacks, gaining control and maintaining possession for much of the first half. The Sea Devils' perseverance paid off when Brynli Baker converted a penalty kick to bring the score to 2-1 just before halftime.
The second half saw Cape Fear press forward with intensity, creating several scoring opportunities but ultimately unable to level the score. Despite the loss, Head Coach C.W. Ponton expresses immense pride in his team:
"While the result did not go the way that we wanted, I am extremely proud of the team today as this was our best performance to date this season. I'd like to thank the friends and family for coming to our games, both home and away, for all your support this season. But the biggest thank you is to our sophomore class. We appreciate all the hard work you put in this season and how you continued to keep the standard within our program."
This match concludes a memorable season for the Sea Devils, as they cap off their season with a Region 10 Tournament Championship and South Atlantic District runner-up honors.
