(February 25, 2025) Mena, Arkansas - Coming off a walk-off win yesterday afternoon at Union Bank Park over NEO, the Bucks returned this afternoon for a mid-week contest against Bossier Parrish Community College. The Bucks and Cavaliers are scheduled to play a home and home this season.
Trapper Golden (Hughes Springs, TX) got the start on the bump for the Bucks and threw well in his 4.0 innings of work. He would surrender 3 hits and gave up a run in the top of the third inning for the Bucks to trail 1-0. But, the Bucks battled back and scored a run in back-to-back innings to take a 2-1 lead. The runs came on RBIs by Jesse Sanchez (Kississimmee, FL) and Ian Smith (Bismarck, AR).
Both teams would then trade a run with BPCC still leading by a run, 4-3. Instead of continuing the trend with a run, the Bucks took advantage of walks and errors by the Cavaliers and plated 5 runs without hitting ball out of the infield. Smith, Sanchez, and Diego Archila (Baton Rouge, LA) each drove in a run, and Jack Bilski (La Porte, TX) plated a pair to give the Bucks an 8-5 lead after seven innings.
Bossier wouldn't go away with another run in the top of the eighth inning, but the Bucks matched it on Ian Smith's third RBI of the day to make it 9-5, which would be the final score.
Amongst the Bucks offense finding ways to get it done, the men did so on the mound as well. Ty Steele (Bentonville, AR) was the second pitcher out of the bullpen and pitched 2.1 innings in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings. Steele (1-0) got his first college win on the mound, giving up a pair of unearned runs on 4 hits. The Bucks only struck out a lone hitter on the day, using four pitchers.
The Bucks now travel to Henderson State University tomorrow for a single 9-inning contest against region foe South Arkansas College. First pitch is scheduled for 12 pm at Clyde Berry Field.
