Barton Softball knocks off 16th ranked Paris to split four-game Texas trip.
The Barton Community College softball team experienced the highs and lows of a season in one weekend by splitting its four games in Denison, Texas.
On Friday, the Cougars led by seven before a seven-run at-bat dealt a 12-8 defeat to North Central Texas College, only to be followed up by managing just one hit in taking a five-inning, 9-0 loss to Division II 3rd ranked Murray State College.
Saturday brought about a new day, the Cougars up bright and early putting three runs on the board in the first at-bat to outlast Northern Oklahoma College-Enid 8-7. The feel-good vibes carried into the weekend finale, plating four in the first frame in riding to a 6-2 upset over 16th ranked Paris Junior College.
The results leave Barton at 3-3 on the season with next action coming Saturday in a 2:00 p.m. double dip at Rose State College. The gap in the schedule comes as Mother Nature again ruled the diamond wiping out the Cougars' Wednesday home opener against Fort Scott Community College due to forecasted low temperature.
Laney Wood was the lone Cougar to collect a hit in each contest, finishing 6-of-14 including a 2-for-4 performance against NOC-Enid with a triple driving in a fourth inning tally.
Sophomore Aly Lawrence also collected six hits batting .500 for the weekend driving in 4-RBI with 2 doubles, doing her damage with the pair of two-baggers coming against NCTC followed by a perfect 4-4 performance against NOC-Enid.
Peyton McCormick was also .500 at the plate, leading the team with a .750 slugging percentage and .692 on-base percentage drawing a team high 4 walks.
Chloe Enslinger provided Barton's first and lone home run so far of the season by delivering a seventh inning solo shot in Friday's loss to NCTC capping a 4-for-4 game while driving in four of her team weekend leading 8-RBI.
Seeing her 12-game hit streak come to an end Friday against Murray, Allyson McDougal began another streak on Saturday with a pair of 2-for-4 performances, driving in a run and belting her season first double and three-bag connection.
In the center circle Meleia Ingram made three appearances, striking out six in each of her split results taking the loss against Murray followed by a complete game victory over Paris running her early season record to 2-1.
Aubrey Pate's first collegiate start picked up the victory over NOC-Enid on 3.1 innings in the circle with a pair of strikeouts.
