November 9, 2024 - - The Commodores put their best game of the season together Saturday afternoon against the No. 7 NJCAA DIII Sandhills Community College Flyers but ultimately fell, 87-80, despite getting high scoring from the Deonte Benejan (25) and Dennis Pettis Jr. (22) off the bench.
Both teams played even for most of the first half and the Flyers took a five point lead into the locker rooms.
Sandhills largest lead came in the second half with 9 minutes remaining when they went ahead by 10, 66-56, but the Commodores battled back and narrowed the gap to four with just over a minute remaining to put the Flyers on the ropes.
Benejan made an acrobatic layup through two defenders on a fast break with 1:44 left in the contest and then Pettis sank two free throws to pull LCCC to within four. But Benejan's layup would be the last field goal for the Commodores over the final two minutes.
