The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team opened the regular season with a win at the Battle on the Beach Blvd. at Florida State College at Jacksonville.
The Titans, who are ranked 20th in the NJCAA Division I preseason poll, defeated Catawba Valley Community College 119-45 Friday afternoon. The 119 points are the most points the program has scored since 2019 when they scored 123 points.
After leading by 18 after the first quarter, the Titans held Catawba Valley to five points in the second quarter to hold a commanding 60-17 lead at halftime.
Silvia Oktokhagua recorded a double-double in the season opener with 12 points and 12 rebounds while Amanda Baumgarte finished with a team-high 16 points, five rebounds and five assists. Karen Nimo hit four 3-pointers and scored 14 points while Lynn Rieth and Marta Vieira each had 13 points.
Eastern Florida State College will play Southern Crescent Technical College at 2 p.m. Saturday in the tournament.
