GALESBURG — The Sandburg softball team opened its Arrowhead Conference schedule with a doubleheader sweep of Sauk Valley on Tuesday. The Chargers held on to win a low-scoring affair in the opener and finished off the sweep with a five-inning blowout.

Key moments
• Hannah Pyles RBI single in the first inning, Jaycee Craig's second-inning sacrifice fly and Jordyn Climer's run-scoring base hit in the third gave the Chargers a 3-0 lead after the first three frames.
• The Skyhawks closed within a run and pushed the tying run to third with two out in the seventh, but Tegan Cobb induced a popup to first to close out the victory.
Sandburg standout
Hunter allowed just one run on six hits over the first 4.1 innings in the circle. She struck out five batters and walked three.

Key moment
The Chargers stormed to a 14-3 lead after the first two innings, scoring six in the first and eight in the second. Climer's three-run homer in the first broke a 3-3 tie, and Mary Hellige, Climer and Bailey Ryan each had doubles in the second that plated two runs.
Sandburg standout
Huffman finished a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate, scored three times and drove in six, highlighted by an inside-the-park grand slam in the fourth as her line drive to center field skipped by the Sauk Valley defender and to the fence.
