Panthers Run Away From Broome on Sophomore Day

After recognizing 11 players for Sophomore Day on Sunday, the Panthers men ran away with a 76-53 win over SUNY Broome. The eighth win in a row improves the Panthers to 16-6 overall and 12-1 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference, guaranteeing at least a share of the MSAC regular season title. Broome falls to 7-7 in conference and 9-15 overall.

The game opened with the Panthers scoring the first five points, only to have Broome answer and tie the game at 5-5. The Panthers then pushed ahead to 10-point lead at 20-20, only to see the Hornets again come back to tie the score. The third move ahead was the definitive one for the Panthers; a 12-4 run to close out the half with a 35-27 lead. A 22-7 run midway through the second half sealed the outcome as the Panthers pulled away for the 23-point win.  

Javonte Long (Harlem/Clayton H.S.) led all scorers with 28 points, posting a double-double with 11 rebounds. Kobe Nwosu (Spring Valley/North Rockland H.S.) also had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, approaching a triple-double with 8 blocks. Israel Guerrido (Bronx/James Monroe H.S.)

added 16 points and Marqiis Samuels (Long Island/The Patrick School) rolled out 9 points, 15 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 assists.

The Panthers travel to Genesee Community College on Wednesday for the regular season finale.
