DALLAS – The State Fair Community College Roadrunners baseball team opened its 2025 season by splitting two doubleheaders on the road against Dallas College Brookhaven and Dallas College North Lake.
SFCC (2-2) won its first game against Brookhaven 3-0 on Friday, Feb. 14, before falling 8-6 in game two after Brookhaven rallied late. The Roadrunners rebounded with a dominant 13-1 victory over North Lake on Saturday, Feb. 15, but dropped the second game 10-9 in a high-scoring contest.
Feb. 14: SFCC vs. Dallas College Brookhaven
In game one, SFCC's offense capitalized on four hits. Freshman outfielder/pitcher Collin Ross of Branson had two hits, an RBI and a run scored. Sophomore outfielder Caleb Briggs of Lee's Summit doubled, scored and drove in a run, while sophomore outfielder Jordan Hedrick of Platte City doubled and scored.
Freshman Jacob Tellman of Jefferson City earned the win, throwing five scoreless innings with six strikeouts. Freshman Matt Lewis of Liberty pitched a scoreless inning in relief, and sophomore Parker Lambeth of Springfield closed the game for the save.
In game two, freshman Andrew Hill of Columbia led SFCC with four hits, including a double, two runs scored and an RBI. Ross added two hits, including a double, and two RBIs. Sophomore infielder Sam Paule of Washington had two hits and a walk. Freshman Peyton Cooper of West Plains doubled, scored twice and drove in a run.
Freshman Hunter Jones of Branson started on the mound, allowing one run on three hits in four innings with seven strikeouts. Sophomore Logan Head of Cairo (0-1) took the loss, giving up four earned runs in one-third of an inning.
Feb. 15: SFCC vs. Dallas College North Lake
SFCC dominated game one, scoring 13 runs on 13 hits. Briggs had two hits, including a double, two RBIs and three runs scored. Hill added two hits, including a double. Ross had two hits, a run scored and a stolen base. Paule recorded two hits, two RBIs and two runs.
Sophomore pitcher Chase Schnieders of Jefferson City (1-0) pitched a complete game, allowing one run on three hits with seven strikeouts.
In game two, Hill stayed hot at the plate with four hits, including a double and an RBI. Freshman catcher Carter Rice of Sedalia homered and drove in three runs. Ross added two hits and a stolen base, while Paule hit a solo home run. Briggs and freshman outfielder Devin Wassmann of Platte City each scored twice.
Sophomore Nate Bartlett of Lee's Summit started, allowing three runs in three innings with five strikeouts. Freshman Franluis Turbi De La Cruz of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (0-1) gave up two runs in relief.
The Roadrunners return to action next weekend.
