Slow Second Quarter Sinks Jayhawks

SANBURN, NY - Jamestown Community College's (JCC) women's basketball team saw its four-game winning streak snapped in a 71-59 loss to Lackawanna College in the SUNY Niagara Tip-Off Classic.

JCC looked good in the first, closing the opening quarter on a 10-0 run, with Kaleigha Plett sparking things off the bench. The sophomore scored four of her nine during the run. Jamestown held a 14-9 lead after the opening frame.

The second quarter was a different story. Lackawanna outscored the Jayhawks 23-10 to take a 32-24 advantage into the half.

Quarter number three was more of the same, with Jamestown dropping those ten minutes by five, 21-16. JCC was able to get something going behind sophomore Jennica Berens, who paced JCC with 13 on the afternoon, but the deficit was still pushed to 13 heading to the final quarter.

Jamestown would win the final frame, but only by one, not enough to overcome the hole they had dug. Sophomore Myla Truitt was the only other Jayhawk to hit double-digits, as she scored 11 on the day.

The loss knocks JCC down to 4-2 on the year.

Jamestown stays on the road on Wednesday, November 20th, at 6:00 PM when they visit Penn State Dubois.
