
No. 11 NIACC cruises, 118-53
MASON CITY - Alexis Schroeder scored a career-high 30 points and Kelsey McDonough scored a career-best 21 points as No. 11 NIACC rolled to a 118-53 victory Tuesday night in a non-conference contest in the NIACC gym.
Schroeder, a sophomore guard from Calednoia, Minn., was 12 of 19 from the field, including a 4 of 8 performance from 3-point range. Schroeder, who also had a career best seven steals, scored 26 of her 30 points in the first half.
The 30 points by Schroeder was the most in a game by a Trojan since Madison Hillman scored 35 points against Iowa Western on Feb. 3, 2024.
McDonough, a freshman guard from Nora Springs, was 7 of 9 from three-point range to score her 21 points. McDonough scored 18 of her 21 points in the first 20 minutes.
The seven 3-point goals by McDonough is tied for 23rd in a single game in NIACC women's basketball history. The last time a Trojan made seven 3-point goals in a single game was Schroeder against Marshalltown CC on Feb. 7, 2024.
Also for the Trojans, Sonya Potthoff scored 20 points giving the Trojans three players with at least 20 points in a game for the first time since the 2019-20 season. The last time the Trojans had three players score at least 20 points in the same game was against Iowa Central on Feb. 15, 2020 when Autam Mendez scored 24 points, Sierrow Morrow scored 24 points and Sierra Lynch scored 23 points.
NIACC's Reggi Spotts scored a career-high 16 points and Tori Miller scored 14 points.
Spotts, a freshman from Nora Springs, also had 10 rebounds with two assists and one steal. It is the first double/double of the season for the NIACC women's basketball team.
Miller grabbed nine rebounds, dished out eight assists and collected four steals.
NIACC (5-1 overall) returns to action Friday and Saturday at home at the Iowa/Nebraska Challenge. The Trojans face Central CC-Columbus at 6 p.m. on Friday and Southeast CC at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
