T-Bird (VB) Falls in Snyder

The T-Birds fell to Western Texas College in straight sets Wednesday, Oct. 30 in Snyder, TX.

The Westerners defeated the Thunderbirds in three sets 19-25, 18-25, 23-25. 

Western Texas had the edge from the start leading 17-14 in the first set. They extended their lead to 23-19 and ultimately won the set 25-19. The second set WTC jumped out to a 19-7 lead. The Thunderbirds trailed 24-12 and were able to rattle off six straight points, but it was not enough with Western taking the second set 25-18. 

The third set was the most competitive of the match. The T-Birds were tied at 16 apiece and then tied again at 23-23 but they were unable to hold off Western Texas and fell 25-23 to end the match in straight sets. 

Outside hitter Leticia Neves finished the match with seven kills and 13 digs. Freshman Ava Kincaid tallied a career-high 16 digs. Libero Sofie Caballero added 25 digs.

Middle blocker Duda Tonella finished the match with three blocks. Setters Taina De Lima Nunes and Sude Omerickoglu both recorded 13 assists in the three-set loss. 

The T-Birds have dropped four straight and now move to 16-13 (6-7) and are third in the WJCAC standings. The Thunderbirds will play Amarillo College Saturday, Nov. 2 at 2 p.m. MDT in Hobbs, NM. Please arrive early as we will recognize NMJC's three sophomores (Taina De Lima Nunes, Sude Omerickoglu, and Sofie Caballero) prior to the serve.
