TRINIDAD, Colo. – It was a hard-earned weekend at home for the Trinidad State College volleyball team who walked out of Scott Gym with perfect 3-0 sweeps over McCook on Friday night and Lamar on Saturday afternoon.
Trinidad State finishes the regular-season with a 23-8 overall record which includes going 6-4 in Region 9-South play.
GAME 1: Trinidad State 3, McCook 0
The Trojans handled the McCook attack early by taking the first two sets 25-21 and 25-18. TSC settled into a nice grove in the third set and handled the Indians with a 25-18 set win.
The Trojans out-hit the Indians .271 to .174 and also dominated the net with 7 more blocks.
The Trojans were led by Jaedyn Fuqua (Fr., Albuquerque, N.M.) who tallied 16 kills, 5 digs, and 4 blocks while teammate Ellie Ames (So., Delta, Colo.) added 8 kills and 3 blocks.
Sophomore Jordan Garcia (So., Albuquerque, N.M.) surpassed the 1,000 career digs mark with 13 digs in the contest.
GAME 2: Trinidad State 3, Lamar 0
The Trojans jumped on the Lopes early in the first set and never settled with a commanding 25-15, 25-18, 25-15 sweep.
Fuqua paced the Trojans with 13 kills off .346 hitting while Garcia added 12 digs on the night and now has 1,022 career digs with the Trojans. Deniz Yıleri (So., Adana, Turkey) added 10 digs and 8 kills.
Trinidad State earned the third seed on the South side of the region and will play Western Wyoming on Wednesday at 11 am for the first-round of the 2024 Region 9 Volleyball Tournament.
