Daytona State College Women’s Soccer Team Wins 2024 NJCAA Division I National Championship
Daytona Beach, FL – November 23, 2024 – The Daytona State College Falcons women's soccer team etched their names in history with an electrifying 2-1 overtime victory over Arizona Western to claim the 2024 NJCAA Division I National Championship. This marks the program's first-ever appearance and championship win at the NJCAA National Tournament.
 
The championship match, played in Wichita, KS, began with a fast-paced start as Sienna Gillespie opened the scoring in the 5th minute, giving the Falcons an early lead. Arizona Western's Matadors found the equalizer in the 32nd minute, tying the game heading into halftime. Both teams battled fiercely throughout the second half, but neither could break the deadlock, pushing the match into overtime.
 
Just five minutes into the first overtime period, Gillespie delivered a perfectly placed pass to Shaneil Buckley, who skillfully slotted the ball into the back of the net. The "Golden Goal" secured the championship for the Falcons.
 
"This is an incredible moment for our program," said Head Coach Hope Clark, who was named Coach of the Tournament. "Our team worked tirelessly all season, and their determination, talent, and unity truly shined on the national stage. I couldn't be prouder of this group."
 
The Falcons' road to the title was nothing short of dramatic. After winning Pool B in the group stage, Daytona State faced the top-seeded Iowa Western Reivers in the semifinals. The match ended in a thrilling penalty shootout, where the Falcons emerged victorious to advance to the championship match.

The Falcons capped off their historic season with an impressive 18-3-1 record, showcasing a blend of skill, resilience, and teamwork.
 
"This championship is a testament to the dedication of our student-athletes, coaches, support staff, and the support of the Daytona State College community," said DSC Athletic Director Will Dunne. "We're incredibly proud to bring this national title home to Daytona Beach."
 
"Our Lady Falcon soccer team have been spectacular all year long," DSC President Dr. Thomas LoBasso said. "Winning a National Championship is not easy and is a memory of a lifetime. I, as well as the entire Daytona State College Community are extremely proud of the coaches and team. Go Falcons!"
 
The Falcons' triumph in their first-ever NJCAA National Tournament appearance solidifies Daytona State College women's soccer as a powerhouse and sets a strong foundation for continued success in the years to come.
