Miami Dade Holds Off Daytona State for 78-69 Victory
The Miami Dade College women's basketball team secured a gritty 78-69 win over Daytona State College on Tuesday night, using a dominant second-quarter surge to take control and never look back.
After a slow start in the first quarter, where the Sharks trailed 21-17, Miami Dade responded in a big way, outscoring Daytona State 24-12 in the second frame. Behind a balanced offensive attack and relentless effort on the boards, MDC took a 41-33 lead into halftime.
The Sharks maintained their momentum in the third quarter, led by an outstanding performance from Jazmyne Bynum, who poured in a game-high 25 points, including four three-pointers, while adding three assists. Shameir Quimby was a force on both ends, recording a 16-point, 11-rebound double-double, along with five assists and three steals. Cleaira Peterson also had a strong presence in the paint, finishing with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Defensively, Miami Dade was relentless, forcing 21 turnovers and coming away with 12 steals. Kiara Harris contributed seven points, while Michaela Lane controlled the glass with nine rebounds.
Despite Daytona State's attempts to rally behind Kyaija Stewart (16 points, 8 rebounds) and Destinie Gordon (16 points, 4 three-pointers), the Sharks' defense held firm in the final stretch.
