Saints Split with Miami
Santa Fe lost in game one and bounced back in game two versus the Miami Dade Sharks
Gainesville, FL ---
Santa Fe hosted the Miami Dade Sharks on a rainy day in Gainesville to round out the season series the teams started on Thursday in Miami. Game one was a close affair until the top of the seventh and Sharks won 14-7. Game two started with Sharks up but the Saints returned the favor with a big seventh inning scoring run of their own to win game two 7-6.
Game one was delayed slightly because of weather in the Gainesville area but the game was able to start a little late as a pocket in the rain gave the teams a window to get started. Zack Dejesus started the action at leadoff with a triple and Robert Nedry delivered a sacrifice fly to push Dejesus across and give the Saints a one run lead. In the bottom of the third, the Saints were able to get the bats going again as Aiden Andreu and Dejesus singled. Nedry walked loading the bases for Ryan Chase who singled on a line drive up the middle scoring one. Erik Blair then homered to right field giving the Saints the 5-2 lead. The Saints would continue the scoring in the fourth as Andreu tripled and then Dejesus homered to earn the RBI and give the Saints a 7-2 lead. The Saints lead would last until the top of the sixth when the Sharks blew up for multiple hits and eleven runs in one inning. The Saints lost game one 14-7, scattered 10 hits, led by DeJesus with three hits in three at bats. Blair and Chase also drove in two runs for the Saints in game one.
In game two of the double header, the Sharks were able to score first in the top of the second and take a 2-0 lead. Lucas Johns earned the win pitching seven and one third innings and striking out six. Santa Fe was able to push one run across in the bottom of the fourth as Carlos Garcia and Rex Smith walked, moving Smith to first and Garcia to second for Maddox Lee who singled to move everyone over a base before Griffin Sorrow grounded out to score Garcia. The game remained 3-1 in favor of the Sharks until the bottom of the seventh when the Saints bats came alive. The action started with three hit by pitch base runners in Nedry, Kyler Nowling, and Blair. Up next with Garcia who hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Nedry and bring the Saints within one at 3-2. Conner Brown laid down a perfectly executed bunt to plate Nowling and advance Blair. With two outs the Saints continued the hot bats as Griffin Sorrow singled and Trey Freeman walked scoring Blair giving the Saints the 4-3 lead. Dejesus singled and earned two RBI to put in the lead 6-3. Miami Dade pushed the Saints in the top of the eight by earning two to bite into the three run lead. But the Saints would hold on to a 6-5 lead entering the bottom of eight. The Saints added an insurance run to go up 7-5 which was needed as the Sharks pushed one across on a fielders choice in the top of the ninth. Macklin Miller was able to finish on the mound and earned four strikeouts in one and two thirds innings while facing nine batters.
Santa Fe is now 11-14 on the season and 4-7 in the Citrus Conference with seven series to go. Next up in the Citrus Conference for the Saints is Eastern Florida.
