Tuesday night, the Marian University Ancilla Men's Basketball team traveled to Auburn Hills, Michigan, to take on Oakland Community College. Both teams entered the night with 10-1 records, while Oakland is ranked #25 in the country, and the Chargers are receiving votes in the same NJCAA Division II poll. Despite a solid effort from the Chargers, the Owls used superb offense to win, 101-84.
If you simply looked at the MUAC stats...just 9 turnovers, only 11 fouls committed, 47% shooting, 83% from the line...it appears as though the Chargers did what they needed to offensively to win. However, they allowed 59 first half points and trailed 59-46 at intermission.
Charger Freshman guard Jordan Woods was electric, scoring 40 points on 15-23 shooting, he posted a double-double with his 11 rebounds, plus he dished out 7 assists and blocked a pair of shots. He eclipsed his previous career high of 27 points, set earlier this season.
Marian Ancilla also got a nice effort from Sophomore wing Dante Porch (13 points, 4 rebounds), while Freshman guard Matt King (10 points) also scored in double figures, however, he struggled with foul trouble and was only able to manage 20 minutes in the loss.
The Chargers do have one more outing before they break for the holidays, as they take on Community Christian (MI) tomorrow night in a double-header with the Women's team. The Men defeated the Lions back on November 30th, 120-75. Please come out and support both teams, if you are able. The Women battle Community Christian as well at 5:30 p.m. at the LifePlex in Plymouth, with the Men to follow at approximately 7:30 p.m. Go Chargers!!
