November 1, 2024 - - The Lorain County Community College women's basketball team won the first game of the 2024-25 season with a solid performance against the Walsh University JV team, 66-56.
Led by first year Head Coach Brandon Lawler, the Commodores dominated the second quarter 26-9 and led the Cavaliers 41-23 at the break. LCCC kept a 20 point lead going into the fourth and the bench held off a late Walsh rally who outscored the Commodores 23-13 in the fourth quarter.
Sophomore Ally Winnen scored 20 points on 10-for-17 shooting and pulled down 22 rebounds in her LCCC debut. She broke an LCCC women's basketball record by securing 14 offensive rebounds in the contest, breaking the previous mark of 11 set by Angel Blakely. As a team, LCCC outrebounded the Cavaliers 65-39.
Freshman Abigail Schmitz scored a team-high 21 points and had 9 rebounds. Chloe Meng scored 13 (3-for-8 for 3-pt land).
