JCC's Upset Bid of Genesee Community College Falls Short

JAMESTOWN, NY - The Jamestown Community College (JCC) baseball team is so close to breaking through but just can't get over the hump versus some of the best teams in the nation, as they dropped a pair of battles to Genesee Community College (GCC) on Monday. The doubleheader was played at Jamestown's Diethrick Park but was considered Genesee home games, as they needed to play at JCC due to poor field conditions on their home diamond.

In game one, the Jayhawks grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 3rd off of a Gabe Roth fielder's choice RBI that scored Alton Will. Genesee quickly took the lead in the bottom half after scoring a pair to make it 2-1. That lead was short-lived, with Jamestown scoring in the 5th on a sac fly from Santino Musone. Unfortunately for the Birds, GCC once again came back to score two runs in the bottom half of the inning and regain a 4-2 advantage. The seesaw story continued in the 6th, with Jamestown tying the game at 4-4 off of a two-RBI triple by Yadiel Garcia. That score held to the bottom of the 7th, where Genesee hit a walk-off single to win 5-4. That defeat was Jamestown's ninth by two or fewer runs.

Game two saw more of the same; the Jayhawks trailed 1-0 entering the 4th inning. That's when the bats came to life, with Gabe Roth hitting a double before Musone plated him on a triple. Then it was Mitchell McKinney driving in Musone to give JCC a 2-1 edge. Just like game one, JCC couldn't muster a shutdown inning, and GCC reclaimed a 5-2 advantage after scoring four in the 4th. Jamestown cut it to a 5-4 deficit in the 6th with Seth Ranieri and Josue Rosario each getting an RBI. Again, Genesee had an answer by scoring three in their half to go back ahead by four. McKinney added an RBI in the 7th, but it was too late as JCC lost 8-5.

The setbacks moved JCC's record to 11-23 overall.

Jamestown stays very active to end the regular season with home games on Thursday, May 1st, against Onondaga Community College at 2:00 PM; home on Saturday, May 3rd, versus Finger Lakes Community College with a 1:00 PM first pitch; and the season finale is scheduled for Sunday, May 4th, at Finger Lakes with a noon first pitch.
