Highlanders drop opener with Galveston

The McLennan Highlanders dropped today's opening game with the Galveston Whitecaps at Bosque River Ballpark. Kadyn Leon took the loss on the mound.
 
Galveston scored five runs in the top of the third. Jacob Bulcroft and Cameron Christ both walked. Grant Mathieu singled to load the bases. Zac Daigre also singled, scoring Bulcroft and Christ. Ashton Beaird singled, and Mathieu scored on an error. Trenton Buckley walked, loading the bases. Ethan Hughes then singled to score Daigre and Beaird.
 
Five more Whitecap runs scored in the fourth. Mathieu singled and advanced on an error. Beaird and Nic Paparella both walked, loading the bases. Mathieu scored on a wild pitch, and Buckley singled to score Beaird. Hughes walked, and Bulcroft singled to score Paparella and Buckley.
 
McLennan got on the board with three runs in the fifth. Brecken Menuet walked, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on an Owen Smith home run. Daniel Harden and Ty Waid both walked. Deiten Lachance then doubled to score Harden.
 
The Highlanders rounded out the scoring with two runs in the sixth. Walker Freeman and Menuet both walked. A fielder's choice by Smith put Menuet out at second. Waid walked again, loading the bases. Lachance then singled to score Freeman and Smith.
 
McLennan and Galveston will conclude the three-game series with a noon doubleheader Sunday.
