Pioneers Win in Panama

PANAMA CITY BEACH, FL - Indian River State College opened the Perfect Game JUCO Classic in dominant fashion with an 8-0 victory over Wallace Community College on Friday, January 31. This win marked the Pioneers' fifth straight and their second consecutive shutout.

Freshman Javi Miranda made his second start of the season, earning his first career win. The right-hander has now thrown ten scoreless innings across two outings. Miranda pitched five strong innings, allowing just three hits while striking out five. Justin Minaberry and Dylan Llanes each contributed a hitless inning in relief to secure the shutout.

The Pioneers' offense got rolling early, scoring three runs in the first inning with RBIs from Jason Lashley and Matty Davis. They continued adding runs in the third, fifth, and sixth innings, finishing with ten hits as a team. Bethune-Cookman commit Makiol Lucena led the charge, launching his first home run of the season. Eight different players recorded hits, with five driving in runs.

Riding a five-game winning streak, the Pioneers now turn their focus to Saturday's, February 1 matchups against Meridian Community College and Northwest Florida State College.
