GAME ONE: HVCC 0 - LACKAWANNA 1
Both teams were strong in the circle on Thursday, but Lackawanna was just a little bit stronger at the plate in their 1-0 victory over the Vikings. Moira Collins started the game for the Vikings and recorded 18 outs.
Collins began the game for the Vikings. The right-handed pitcher surrendered three hits and one run over six innings, striking out eight and walking two. Grace Harris, Angelise Montanez, and Izabelle Ratcliffe each collected one hit for the Vikings. The Vikings were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Samantha Graham had the most chances in the field with eight.
GAME TWO: HVCC 5 - LACKAWANNA 6
A walk-off left the Vikings on the wrong end of a 6-5 defeat to Lackawanna. The game was tied at five in the bottom of the seventh when the falcon's Kizbelth Ortiz was struck by a pitch, driving in a run.
The Vikings lost despite out-hitting Lackawanna College Softball 11 to four. Maeve Brannigan led the Vikings with three hits. The Vikings flipped the game on its head in the top of the fourth, scoring five runs on four hits to take the lead, 5-4. The biggest blow in the inning was a grand slam to left field by Izabelle Ratcliffe on the sixth pitch of the at-bat that drove in four. Neumeister stepped in the circle first for the Vikings. The pitcher allowed four hits and five runs over five innings, striking out none and walking four.
The Vikings collected 11 hits in the game. Ratcliffe drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Vikings with four runs batted in. The third baseman went 1-for-4 on the day. Samantha Graham and Brianna Shutter each collected multiple hits for the Vikings.
The Vikings play again on Sunday, March 23rd at Mercer. The games will be at 1pm and 3pm.
