NIACC rolls past Waldorf JV, 117-84
MASON CITY - The NIACC men's basketball team cruised to a 117-84 victory over the Waldorf University Junior Varsity Friday night in a non-conference contest in the NIACC gym.
NIACC, which has won three straight games, led 70-39 at the half and outscored the Warriors 47-45 in the second 20 minutes. The 117 points by the Trojans is tied for the 25th most in a game in school history.
NIACC accumulated a season-high 32 assists as the Trojans scored at least 100 points for the fourth time this season. The Trojans also topped the Waldorf University Junior Varsity 104-65 earlier this season on Nov. 19.
The 32 assists is the most for the Trojans since they compiled 35 assists against the Grinnell University Junior Varsity in a 144-107 win on Nov. 15, 2019.
Freshman guard Randy McClendon led the Trojans with a career-high 22 points with a career-best seven assists. four rebounds and one steal. Sophomore Adam Hackett scored 15 points with four rebounds, two steals, two blocks and one assist.
Also for the Trojans, Omarion Roberts, Zion Wright and Cameron Reigard all scored 14 points.
Roberts and Brayden Drea each collected six assists.
Drea scored six points, including two 3-point goals. Drea now has 91 career 3-point goals, which ranks 20th on the Trojans' career 3-point list.
Wright led the Trojans with a game-high 11 rebounds to go with his 14 points for his fourth double/double of the season. it was the sixth time this season that Wright has collected double digit rebounds.
The Waldorf University Junior Varsity was led by Max Lee with 32 points, including eight 3-point goals. Jacob Khounsourath was next in line for the Warriors with 22 points, including four 3-point goals.
NIACC (14-5 overall, 6-3 in the ICCAC) returns to action Wednesday in an ICCAC contest at Southwestern CC. Game time in Creston is set for 7:30 p.m.
