In a thrilling matchup on Thursday, Pensacola State College (PSC) traveled to Gainesville, FL, to face St. Petersburg in the play-in game of the FCSAA Tournament. This marked PSC's first appearance in the tournament in a decade, and the Pirates did not disappoint.
The Pirates came out strong, with Dimitri Clerc setting the tempo early. Will Vasser was on fire, sinking three 3-pointers in the first half to help PSC build a commanding 41-28 lead at halftime.
However, the Titans were not ready to back down. Mason Blazer led the charge for St. Petersburg, scoring a game-high 20 points. With about six minutes remaining, the Titans went on a 15-7 run, narrowing the gap to single digits.
Just when the game seemed to be slipping away, Isaiah Sutherland stepped up and nailed a crucial 3-pointer, pushing the lead back to double digits. The Pirates then cruised to a 72-64 victory.
Dimitri Clerc was a standout performer for PSC, leading the team with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Will Vasser contributed 18 points, while Amarion Savage dished out eight assists. Jaidyn Breville provided a spark off the bench, hitting key 3-pointers in both halves and scoring a season-high eight points.
With this victory, the Pirates earned the No. 6 seed and will face No. 3 Eastern Florida at 3:00 pm on Thursday, March 13, at Raider Arena in Niceville, Florida.
