Lady Bears hold off the Southern Shreveport Lady Jags for Conference Victory

The Baton Rouge Lady Bears traveled up I-49 today to face off against their LCCAC rivals, the Southern Shreveport Lady Jags, at Evangel Christian Academy. The Lady Bears held off a late push from the Lady Jags to secure a 70-65 conference victory.
The first quarter was a competitive back-and-forth battle between the Lady Bears and the Lady Jags. Baton Rouge got on the board first with a basket by freshman Kinsley James. However, the Lady Jags quickly responded with a three-pointer, taking a 3-2 lead. From that point until the midway point of the quarter, the Lady Bears went on an 11-4 run, establishing a 13-7 lead with 5:19 remaining. The Lady Jags would then mount a mini-run of their own to pull within four by the end of the first quarter, trailing 17-13.
In the second quarter, the Lady Bears found their offensive rhythm while tightening their defense. They outscored the Lady Jags 19-16 in this quarter to take a 36-29 lead at halftime.
The Lady Jags came out strong in the third quarter, going on an 8-1 run to tie the game at 37 with 7:36 left. The game continued to alternate leads, but neither team held a margin larger than three points. Although the Lady Jags outscored the Lady Bears 18-13 in this quarter, Baton Rouge managed to stay close, trailing 49-47 going into the final period.
The fourth quarter featured multiple lead changes and two ties. The score was tied at 59 with 3:13 remaining. Down the stretch, the Lady Bears received tremendous contributions from Frandreka Keller, who scored five critical points in the last minutes, helping the team secure a 70-65 victory.
Kinsley James led the Lady Bears in scoring with 19 points. A total of two Lady Bears scored in double figures, while the Lady Jags were led in scoring by Ikeia Brown, who also had 19 points, with three Lady Jags reaching double figures.
With this victory, the Lady Bears improved to 10-5 overall (2-0 in conference play), while the Lady Jags fell to 3-11 (0-2 in the conference). Baton Rouge now holds a commanding lead in the all-time series against Southern Shreveport, boasting 44 wins to just 6 losses.

J'nyria Kelly scored 9 points and grabbed 10 boards.
