Sharks Edge Out Spoon River College in 3-1 Victory
Miami Dade secured a solid 3-1 win over Spoon River College, led by a dominant pitching performance from Amanda Handa. The Sharks' offense was highlighted by a two-run homer from Dana Piri, and Handa's complete-game gem sealed the victory.
Piri got things going in the second inning with a towering home run to left field, bringing in Ty Marie Cervantes and giving Miami Dade an early 2-0 lead. The Sharks added an insurance run in the fifth when Gabriela Luz lined a single to left, scoring Caroline Mito to make it 3-0.
Handa was nearly untouchable in the circle, allowing just two hits while striking out seven batters over seven innings. She kept the Spoon River lineup in check, surrendering only one unearned run in the seventh when Karsyn Skaggs drove in Kenadee Allensworth on a single to right.
Spoon River's Olivia Young also pitched well, going the distance while allowing just one earned run, but Miami Dade's early offensive burst proved to be the difference.
