Peyton Moritzen shines in Knights Dominant win over Sussex
The CCBC Essex Knights Men's Lacrosse team extends their win streak to 3 after a dominant 23-1 victory over Sussex Community College. The Knights were led by Freshman Attacker Peyton Moritzen, who had a game high 8 goals. Midfielder Conner Anderson and Attacker Kyle Morrison both showed their versatility as well. Morrison finished with four goals and six assists, and Anderson finished with three goals and five assists.
The Knights started off the game hot, with Moritzen scoring the game's first goal five minutes into the contest. The Skylanders didn't have an answer for him, as he scored five of the teams eight goals in the first. The Skylanders managed to score a singular goal, but unfortunately that would be their last time seeing the back of the net. For the Knights, it was just the beginning.
The second saw five different Knights score goals. Morrison had part in six of the nine goals the Knights scored, scoring and also assisting on three goals. The Knights found themselves up 17-1 at half.
In the second half the Knights were in cruise control. They only scored six goals but their defense was unrelenting, only allowing the Skylanders to make good on 5 total clear attempts. This played part in keeping the deficit so large.
A key to the Knights victory was the faceoffs. The squad managed to win every single faceoff attempt in the contest, going a perfect 28-28.
The Knights will look to continue their streak Saturday as they take on Army Prep in West Point, NY. Gametime is set for 12:00 PM.
