Saints Drop in 8 Innings to Indian River
Santa Fe made the trip to Fort Pierce for one game on Thursday afternoon to take on Indian River State College
Fort Pierce, FL
Santa Fe drops to Indian River after the Pioneers close the game by scoring 9 unanswered runs as the beat the Saints 14-6 in 8 innings. There was plenty of offense brought by both squads on Thursday in Fort Pierce, Florida, as Santa Fe and Indian River combined for 28 hits and scored 20 runs in the contest. The game's 0-0 start was short lived afer Indian River scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-0 advantage. Santa Fe answered with two of their own to knot it up at 2-2 after the top half of the 2nd. Indian River then retook the lead 4-2 after plating two more runs in the second inning. Each team added one more run in the third inning to make it a 5-3 game. The Saints scored three runs in the top of the 5th inning to take the lead back, largely thanks to a Carlos Garcia two-run homerun. A fresh Pioneer arm after a pitching change in the top half of the 5th inning would help Indian River shut down any remaining offense the Saints would have and hold the Saints offensive day to only 6 runs.
A Grand Slam in the bottom of the 6th would ultimately be too much for the Saints, as Indian River took a 9-6 lead off of that one swing. 5 more runs were added in the bottom of the 8th inning which extended the lead to 8 runs and serving as a run-rule causing the game to go final.
Eight out of nine Saints recorded at least one hit in the contest and trotted out 5 arms as Macklin Miller recieved the loss.
Santa Fe is back at home against Indian River for a doubleheader on Saturday March, 1st at 12:00 and 3:00 PM.
