
The Kansas City Kansas Community College men's basketball team lost to the Western Iowa Tech Community College Comets, 58-63 Dec.11 at Mid-America Nazarene University in Olathe, Kan. Despite the slow start, the Blue Devils were able to score 29 points off turnovers along with 33 bench points.
Despite the loss, Blue Devil guard Pierce Ross had his best outing of the year. Ross shot 8-12 from the floor, 4-4 from three and finished with 21 points (team-high) and seven rebounds. O'shawn Jones-Winslow had eight points and shot 50% from the field. BJ Stewart struggled from the floor and had his first game of the season not recording double digit points. Stewart finished with six points, eight rebounds and four blocks. Ta'Veaion Washington recorded seven points coming off the bench and shot 3-5 from the field.
For the game, the Blue Devils shot 22-66 from the field (33.3%), 5-22 from three-point range (22.7%) and 7-12 from the free-throw line (58.3%). The Comets shot 25-69 from the field (36.2%), 2-11 from three-point range (18.2%) and 11-15 from the free-throw line (73.3%).
The next game for the Blue Devils is against Avila University at 7 p.m. Jan.7 at Metropolitan Community College in Kansas City, Mo.
