Friday, February 14: PVCC 5, PC 2

The Pumas were victorious against Phoenix College 5-2 on Friday at PC.

After the Bears got on the board first, the Pumas took a 4-2 lead in the top of the fifth after Alex Sanchez was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Isaac McNair-Seigler drew a walk, scoring one run, and Brock DeBattista drew a walk, scoring one run.

Noah Darnell earned the win for the Pumas. The starter gave up five hits and two runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out three and walking one. Luis Ozuna collected the save. Dylan Droelle and Kaleb Williams each came on in relief for the Pumas and shutdown Phoenix College.

Logan Yule and Sanchez were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in one run for the Pumas. Jared Swarbrick went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead the team in hits. The team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing seven walks for the game, DeBattista had three of those walks.

 

Saturday, February 15: PVCC 10, PC 6

Jared Swarbrick drove in four runs on one hit to lead the Pumas past Phoenix College 10-6 on Saturday at home. In the third inning, Swarbrick hit a grand slam to left field.

The Pumas got on the board in the bottom of the third inning after Erick Dessens drew a walk, scoring one run, and Swarbrick hit a grand slam to left.

PC tied the game in the top of the fourth thanks to a couple of singles and a double. The Bears then took a 6-5 lead in the top of the eighth on a solo home run to centerfield.

The Pumas flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the eighth, scoring five runs on two hits to take the lead, 10-6. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Dessens that drove in two.

Dylan Droelle earned the win for the Pumas. The hurler gave up zero hits and zero runs over one inning, striking out one and walking one. John Witt stepped on the bump first for the Pumas. The right-handed pitcher gave up six hits and five runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking none. Luis Ozuna, Adan Hoyos, Brody Livingston, and Kaleb Williams each threw scoreless innings the Pumas in relief.

Dessens went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Pumas in hits. The team had patience at the plate, accumulating nine walks for the game. Swarbrick and Cooper Holtorf led the team with two free passes each.

The Pumas face Mesa Community College at home on Tuesday, February 18 at 3:00pm.
