Sophomore Mary Walker of Fonda scored 21 points to lead the DMACC women's basketball team to an 80-55 win over Marshalltown Community College (MCC) January 11 at Marshalltown.
Sophomore Joy Beran of Riceville added 12 points as the Bears improved to 12-5 overall and 5-2 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) with their fourth consecutive victory.
DMACC trailed 17-16 at the end of the first quarter but outscored the Tigers 17-9 in the second period for a 33-26 advantage at halftime. The Bears had a 55-43 lead at the end of the third quarter.
DMACC shot 35 percent in the win, hitting 29 of 83 field goal attempts. The Bears were 8-of-30 from three-point range and 14-of-19 from the free throw line.
Walker, Beran and freshman Hanna Wagenbach of Burlington pulled down seven rebounds apiece as DMACC came away with a 39-32 advantage on the boards.
Freshman Kaylee Stratton of Tiffin led DMACC in assists with seven and Walker added five. Stratton and Wagenbach topped the Bears in steals with three apiece.
The DMACC women's basketball team will play Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) Jan. 15 at Council Bluffs. The Reivers are 9-9 overall and 3-5 in conference play.
