Miami Dade Holds Off Santa Fe in Game 1 of Doubleheader
Miami Dade edged out Santa Fe College 5-4 in a tightly contested Game 1 of their doubleheader, improving to 11-0 on the season.
The Sharks wasted no time answering an early Santa Fe run, as Amanda Handa launched a two-run homer in the first inning to give Miami Dade a 2-1 lead. Santa Fe tied the game in the third with a solo shot from Madison Conway, but Miami Dade quickly regained the advantage when Ebba Sofia Eriksson doubled home Dana Piri.
The teams continued to trade blows, with Santa Fe capitalizing on a defensive miscue in the fourth to even the score at 3-3. However, the Sharks responded immediately, as Caroline Mito crushed a solo home run to put Miami Dade back in front.
Mito continued her stellar performance in the sixth, doubling in an insurance run to extend the lead to 5-3. Santa Fe's Karris Rhine made things interesting in the seventh with a solo homer, but Miami Dade's Carina Amarilla shut the door to secure the complete-game victory.
Amarilla (5-0) scattered five hits over seven innings, allowing four runs (three earned) while striking out four. Santa Fe's Ryleigh Bauer (3-2) took the loss despite striking out six in six innings of work.
Mito led the offensive charge for Miami Dade, going 3-for-3 with a homer, a double, and two RBIs. Handa also contributed a homer and two RBIs, while Eriksson added an RBI double.
With the win, Miami Dade remains undefeated heading into Game 2 of the doubleheader.
