Murray's 2-RBI Single, Lifts Lady Tribs Over Hornets in 7-5 Win
MYRTLE BEACH, SC - Monroe CC topped Vermont State - Lyndon 7-5 on Saturday, From the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex
Vermont State - Lyndon got on the board in the top of the first inning after #16 singled up the middle, and #16 scored after tagging up, each scoring one run.
A fielder's choice by #16 extended the Vermont State - Lyndon lead to 3-0 in the top of the second inning.
Monroe CC tied the game in the bottom of the second thanks to a single by Jenny Walter, and an error.
In the top of the third, Vermont State - Lyndon broke up the tie when #55 singled, scoring one run. Then a single by #12 followed to extend the lead to 5-3.
Monroe CC captured the lead, 7-5, in the bottom of the fourth when Leah Murray singled, scoring two runs, Kaydence Morrissette singled, scoring one run, and Madalyn Robinson doubled, scoring one run.
Robinson pitched four innings in relief for Monroe CC. The pitcher gave up two hits and zero runs while, striking out five and walking none. Carly Cegielski stepped in the circle first for Monroe CC. The starter allowed eight hits and five runs over three innings, striking out three and walking two. #55 led things off in the circle for Vermont State - Lyndon. The pitcher gave up five hits and three runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out none and walking one.
Walter and Morrissette each collected two hits for Monroe CC. Walter led Monroe CC with two runs batted in. The left-handed hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. Nikki Namisniak led Monroe CC with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing four walks for the game. Namisniak stole two bases. Monroe CC were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Reagan Bannister made the most plays with eight.
#5 and #16 were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Vermont State - Lyndon. #16 provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Vermont State - Lyndon with two runs batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 2-for-4 on the day.
