No. 16 Trojans top Lake Region State, 70-47
MASON CITY - For the second straight day, the No. 16 NIACC women's basketball team topped Lake Region State College Saturday afternoon with a 70-47 victory in the NIACC gym.
On Friday, the Troans gained a 59-51 non-league victory over the Royals.
NIACC improved its overall record to 12-2 heading into Wednesday's home showdown against top-ranked Kirkwood.
The Trojans are 10-0 at home this season and have won 13 straight home games dating back to the 2023-24 season. The last home loss for the Trojans was a 81-72 loss at the hands of Kirkwood on Feb. 14, 2024.
On Saturday, freshman Reggi Spotts led the Trojans with 20 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, two steals and one blocked shot. It was Spotts' fourth double/double of the season.
Spotts' other three double/doubles came against Waldorf Junior Varsity (16 points/10 rebounds), Southeast CC (16 points/10 rebounds) and Northeast CC (13 points/10 rebounds).
Also for the Trojans in Saturday's victory, sophomore Sonya Potthoff scored 17 points. Sophomore Tori Miller scored 14 points and sophomore Keeley Steele scored 11 points.
Steele also recorded a double/double with 11 rebounds - her second double/double of the season and career. She also led the Trojans with six assists.
Miller grabbed eight rebounds with four steals and three assists.
