
The Kansas City Kansas Community College women's volleyball swept the Hesston College Larks Oct. 30 at Hesston College in Hesston, Kan. The Blue Devils finished in third place in the KJCCC with a conference record of 8-2. The two losses are from the teams who finished ahead of them, Cowley College and Johnson County Community College. Currently in the NJCAA rankings, Cowley is No.1, Johnson County is No.10 and the Blue Devils are No.13.
The Blue Devils took down the Larks in three sets with scores of 25-12, 25-13 and 25-14. In the first set, the Blue Devils led late with a score of 22-19 but fell short. Mercedez Brown and Briazia Osborne led the team with five kills apiece. Veronica Rolando finished the match with 15 assists and three service aces. She currently leads the conference with 104 service aces. The second closest to her is Laura Bonomi, who has 69. Ginevra Girardo had a breakout night on the net defensively as she added a career-high seven block assists.
The next match for the Blue Devils volleyball team will be on Wednesday, Nov.6 for the first round of the Region VI Tournament at Rockhurst University. The Blue Devil opponent has yet to be announced.
