Bryant & Stratton College softball adds two more wins
Bobcats win two drama filled games
MELBOURNE, Fla. — Bryant & Stratton College (WI) softball hit the diamond again following a successful outing in yesterday's tripleheader. It was another fantastic outing, as it recorded two wins.
Game 1 | Bryant & Stratton 2, North Central Missouri 1 (F/8)
Bryant & Stratton's first game of the day was one filled with drama but ended in smiles following an extra-inning win in the eighth inning.
Holly Lowenberg started the game for the Bobcats. She allowed just four hits and struck out eight over eight innings, not allowing an earned run or walk.
North Central's pitcher, Cassi Rodgers, was also solid, not allowing the Bobcats to score in regulation.
The scoreboard read 0-0 heading to the top of the eight, and the Pirates scored first, with the runner placed second. But the Bobcats would get the last call.
Olivia Fietz started their half of the inning with a single, but MacyJean Cain, who replaced Sophia Santiago, who started at second at third, was thrown at home on a fielders choice by Madelyn Birling. Kayla Roidt kept the Bobcats alive with a single to right field that brought in Fietz and advanced Birling to third.
Sophomore Grace Leitheiser played hero, laying down a bunt that brought Birling across the plate and won the game for the Bobcats.
Game 2 | Bryant & Stratton 10, State Fair CC 8
It was a different story in the second game of the day. Plenty of runs were scored and the Bobcats did just enough to hold off a furious comeback attempt by the Roadrunners.
It looked like it would be a dominant outing for the Bobcats as they were able to grab an 8-2 lead through five innings, but in the top of the sixth, State Fair put up five runs and cut the lead to one run.
The Bobcats committed five errors, allowing the Roadrunners to get back into the game, but Delilah Abundiz and Santiago brought in two insurance runs. Lowenberg took the circle secured the win for the Bobcats and struck out two to record the save.
Kylie Stark started for Bryant & Stratton and she allowed six runs (two earned) over 5 1⁄3 innings, striking out one and walking one. This was also her third win of her career.
Notes:
- Fietz went 2-for-3 with two RBIs
- Lily Fairfield went 3-for-4 and scored three runs
