Softball Splits with Wildcats

The Kansas City Kansas Community College softball team split against the North Dakota State College of Science Wildcats with scores of 4-2 and 6-11. After the first two full weeks of the regular season, the top four highest batting averages are coming from freshman - Ashton Russell (.400), Kaitlyn Cowan (.393), Sidney Sullivan (.375) and Abryelle Hill (.370).

In the first game, the Blue Devils were able to score four runs off just six hits. Russell had two of those hits with one RBI and one run scored. The three other RBIs came from Sullivan, Cowan and Hill. Sullivan hit a homerun which makes it back-to-back games with a shot over the fence.

Alyssa Droge threw for four innings and let up just one run from the four Wildcat hits. She walked one batter and struck out two. Hanna Acree entered the game in the fifth inning and let up four hits and one run. Both pitchers did their job to ensure that the Blue Devils could hold onto the win.

In game two, the scoring started early for KCKCC as they scored one run in the first and second inning for an early 2-0 lead. The Wildcats caught fire in the third and fourth innings putting up a total of five runs. It was tied 6-6 heading into the sixth inning and NDSCS managed to put the game to bed with a huge five run inning. Hill had two extra base hits for the Blue Devils while going 2-3 from the plate and recorded two RBIs. Cowan had a double and brought in three runs while going 2-3 from the plate. Sydney Becker went 2-4 while batting second in the lineup, her third time this season not being the lead-off batter.

There were four Blue Devi pitchers who combined for 11 runs, 11 hits, three walks and three strikeouts. Bailey Carder saw her first appearance in the circle in the top of the seventh inning and allowed just one hit, one walk and struck out one batter while allowing no runs.
