Bears increase win streak to 13 with blowout of the Louisiana Knights

The Baton Rouge Bears concluded their regular season this evening at the Bonne Sante Wellness Center with a decisive victory over the Louisiana Knight Post Grad Academy. The Bears dominated the first half, outscoring the Knights 49 to 23, ultimately winning the game 93 to 59. With this victory, the Bears extended their winning streak to 13 games and set a new program record for wins in a season, finishing with a 19-8 record.  

Baton Rouge jumped out to an early 8 to 1 lead in the first five minutes of the game. The Bears showcased excellent ball movement on offense and applied strong defensive pressure, forcing the Knights into multiple turnovers and challenging shots. The Knights managed to narrow the gap to just three points, 10-7, with 13:51 remaining in the half. However, from that point on, the Bears went on an impressive 39-16 run, closing the half with a commanding 26-point lead at 49-23.  

In the second half, while the Louisiana Knights fought to stay in the game, they could not reduce the deficit to less than 22 points. The Bears outscored the Knights 44 to 36 in the second half, securing their 93 to 59 victory. The Bears also took the opportunity to utilize their bench depth, providing valuable playing time to many players in preparation for regional play starting next week.  

The Bears were led in scoring by Courtney McCourthy with 23 points. The Bears had three student athletes score in double figures, McCarthy, Phillips, Savoie. The Knights were led in scoring by Jymire Gary Shields who scored 16 points. The Knights had two student athletes score in double figures, Shields and Wilz.

Bears Highlights

Courtney McCarthy led the Bears with 23 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals.

McKennis Savoie came off the bench to add 14 points with 3 rebounds.

Kialen Phillips added 12 points with 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.

Troy Joseph grabbed 11 boards.

With this victory, the Bears concluded their regular season with a record of 19-8 and a perfect 6-0 in conference play. This was the first meeting between the Bears and the Louisiana Knights on the court.  

Next, the Bears await their opponent for the Region XXIII Tournament, with the opening round scheduled for Thursday, March 6, 2025.
