The Marian University Ancilla Women's Basketball team defeated Muskegon College on Friday afternoon, 62-48, securing themselves a spot in the Great Lakes District A Bracket Championship Game this Sunday. With the win, the Chargers set a program record with their 27th win of the season, topping the talented 2017-2018 squad that finished 26-7 that year.

Marian Ancilla built a 12-point lead by halftime, 33-21, thanks to great defense and discipline throughout the first half, including limiting Muskegon to just 6 2nd quarter points. But the Jayhawks came out assertive offensively in the 3rd period, getting to the rim and utilizing the free throw line as a weapon, outscoring the Chargers 20-9 in the stanza. That included a 17-0 run by the Jayhawks.

But the Chargers fought through some bumps & bruises, took control of the game back in the 4th quarter, and outscored Muskegon 20-7 over the final 10 minutes. More impressively, the Chargers out-rebounded the Jayhawks 43-36 and limited them to just 23.2% shooting (16-69) from the field over the entire game.

Sophomore wing De'Mour Watson was strong around the basket all night, scoring 30 points and collecting 13 rebounds. Sophomore guard Nasiya Gause came out firing early, plus she scored 15 points and hauled in 7 rebounds as well. Sophomore wing Bella Mahan added a pair of big 3-pointers in the first half, while Freshman guard Aaliyah Keil pulled down 10 rebounds and dished out 5 assists. Freshman post Jadyn Harris was instrumental in blocking out, keeping Jayhawks off the boards, and her rim protection was key as well.

As mentioned above, the Chargers return to the court on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. when they take on St. Clair County Community College. With a win, Marian Ancilla would move on to the NJCAA Division II Women's National Tournament. Good luck to the Women's team this Sunday as they attempt to continue their history-making season!
