RedTail Softball Opens Up Season at SCC Turf Tournament

The RedTail Softball team travelled to Burlington, Iowa to play in Southeastern Community College's Turf Tournament. The RedTails went 0-2 on opening day, dropping a close one to Illinois Central 3-2, and losing to Southeastern Community College 11-0 in 5 innings.
Game 1: 3 (ICCC), 2 (HCC)
The Cougars struck first in the game, scoring in the bottom of the first inning from a single, stolen base, and double. Illinois Central scored again in the bottom of the third off of a single, stolen base, passed ball, and another single. The Cougars added their third and final run in the bottom of the fifth, scoring off a single, RedTail error, and fielder's choice.
Down 3-0, the RedTails saw some fight at the end of the game. In the bottom of the sixth, the RedTail offense was sparked by Lucy Lebo, who hit a double and advanced to third on an error. She then scored off of the bat of Jordan Eads.
With just three outs to go, the RedTails didn't go down without a fight. Lizzy Hamand started the inning off with a double to center field. She then advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored from a single from Rylie Devlin. Unfortunately the RedTails were unable to score, even with threats on the bases. The RedTails lost 3-2.
The RedTails were led at the plate by Lucy Lebo, who was 2-3 with a double and run scored. Jordan Eads was 1-2 with a run batted in, and Lizzy Hamand was 2-3 with two doubles
On the mound, Mya Chamberlin took the loss, tossing six innings, giving up seven hits, two earned runs, and four strikeouts.
Game 2: 11 (SCC), 0 (HCC)
The Blackhawks got out to a quick start, scoring five runs in the first inning, one run in the second inning, and five more runs in the third inning.
The RedTails had baserunners on in four of the five innings, but were unable to get the bats going to start a rally.
At the plate, Eads had the sole hit of the game. There were four RedTails to draw walks for the game.
On the mound, Adelyn Sienknecht took the loss, giving up eight hits, eight earned runs, and three walks. Eads also pitched, giving up four hits and two earned runs.
The RedTails move to 0-2 on the season. They are playing two more games in the tournament on Saturday, February 15th. They play at 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM against Indian Hills Community College and Blackhawk College.
