Cayuga Community College Women's Basketball erupted for a season-high 72 points in a home win over Erie Community College on Saturday.

The Spartans led for all but a few minutes early in the contest, and outscored the Kats by 16 points across the final two quarters for a 72-49 win. Top scorers Haley Mosch and Lexi Alberici combined for 54 points in the win.

Cayuga Coach Jim Alberici said the game was the Spartans' best showing on the offensive end, and that they combined it with another solid defensive effort.

"We've been waiting on a game like this one, where we shoot the ball well and pass the ball very well. We had 18 assists on 25 made baskets — that's great team basketball," said Alberici. "It was great to see us play this way, and to see the confidence we've built up in the earlier games carry over to this performance."

The Spartans' offense was strong from the start, with Mosch, Alberici and Xavia Evener combining for 19 points in the first quarter as Cayuga built an eight-point lead. They withstood a run from Erie in the second quarter and led 33-26 at the break.

Alberici and Mosch powered the Spartans' offense in the third and fourth quarters. Cayuga started the third on a 15-5 run to build a double-digit margin, then outscored the Kats in the fourth quarter to maintain their lead.

Mosch finished with 34 points, 10 rebounds, and two assists, and Alberici had 20 points, eight assists and four steals. Evener finished with nine points, and Morgan Jones had eight rebounds and five assists.

Cayuga has one game left before the Thanksgiving break, a 7 p.m. road game on Monday, Nov. 25, against Roberts Wesleyan University's JV team. The Red Hawks defeated Cayuga in Spartan Hall earlier this season by a 55-41 final.
