
Northwest Florida State Sweeps Lansing Community College in Friday Doubleheader
Game One: Heyl Dominates as Raiders Secure 4-1 Victory
Cailyn Heyl delivered a masterful performance in the circle, striking out a career-high 14 batters to lead Northwest Florida State to a 4-1 win over Lansing on Friday. Heyl allowed just three hits and one run over seven innings, walking only one.
The Raiders took an early lead in the second inning when Haley Hughes grounded into a double play, allowing a run to score.Karson McGowan extended the lead in the third, launching a solo home run to left field.Lulu Luedtke provided insurance runs in the sixth with a two-run homer to center field.
The Stars pitcher, Shadduck, threw six innings, allowing four runs on five hits while striking out five and walking six.
Offensively, Northwest Florida State saw contributions from Bre Hughes, McGowan, Luedtke, Falyn Beebe, and AJ Vineski, who each recorded a hit. Luedtke led the team with two RBIs, finishing a perfect 1-for-1 at the plate. The Raiders also showed patience at the plate, drawing six walks.
For Lansing, H Kruizenga, Hillard, and Tupper each tallied a hit. Hillard, who went 1-for-3, drove in Lansing's lone run. Defensively, Lansing was solid, turning a double play and committing no errors. Tupper led the team with six defensive plays.
Game Two: Stevens Powers Raiders to 12-4 Win
Julie Stevens put on a show at the plate, blasting two home runs and driving in four runs to propel Northwest Florida State to a 12-4 win over the Stars. Stevens homered in both the third and fourth innings.
Mallory Baker was dominant in the circle, striking out 10 over five innings. The right-hander allowed just three hits and four runs while issuing no walks.
Northwest Florida State wasted no time getting on the board, scoring twice in the first inning on a Karson McGowan sacrifice fly and a Hailey Henry RBI single.The Raiders extended their lead in the second when Sara Watson homered to center field, followed by a groundout RBI from Lulu Luedtke.
A seven-run third inning put the game out of reach. The offensive explosion included an RBI single from AJ Vineski, a three-run homer by Stevens, run-scoring singles from Bre Hughes and Baker, and an RBI groundout from Falyn Beebe.Stevens added another solo shot in the fourth to cap off the Raiders' scoring.
Lansing's starting pitcher, Cielo Perez, struggled against the Raiders' offense, surrendering 11 runs on 14 hits over 2.1 innings.
Northwest Florida racked up 17 hits, with Hughes, McGowan, Luedtke, Watson, and Anna Grace Griggs all recording multiple hits.
For Lansing, Abby Fichtner led the offense with two RBIs, going 1-for-2. Savannah Collins, Fichtner, and H Kruizenga each recorded a hit. Defensively, Lansing played a clean game with no errors, and Kyra Shadduck led the team with six fielding chances.
