On Thursday April 10th the SUNY Orange Colts began their four game series against the Hawks of Rockland County Community College. This is the last conference series match up the Colts will play until the post season.
In this series the Colts fell short in each outing suffering an 0-4 record against Rockland Community College. In game one the Colts lost by a score of 20-18, Jonas Kerzner collected three hits in six at bats as he homered and doubled in the fourth inning before finishing the night with a single in the eighth inning.
In the bottom of the first inning the Hawks hit a solo home run to center field to give Rockland the first lead of the game, in what was a short lived lead the Colts rallied back in the very next inning after Ronnie Anzovino doubled down the right field line to tie the game at one run each. In the first three innings of the game neither team was able to gain the advantage over their opponent until the Colts completely flipped the game on its head in the top of the fourth inning after scoring EIGHT runs, tying their season high in runs scored in a single inning. J. Kerzner got things started in the fourth inning, wasting no time as he doubled on the first pitch that he saw, Jonas would come around to score to tie the game at 2-2. Jonas would soon end the inning with a three run home run being responsible for the first and last runs to cross the plate in the fourth inning.
After seven innings of play the SUNY Orange Colts held a three run lead with the score standing at 12-9, in the top of the eighth inning the Colts scored six runs on just one hit as they reached base six different times due to earned walks. Dylan Williams, Jadin O'Neil, Brian Saldana and Michael Fontaine each drew a walk, scoring one run. The Hawks showed zero signs of letting up as they scored 11 runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to take a 20-18 lead.
Anthony Borromeo started on the mound for the Colts, the starter allowed eight hits and eight runs over five innings, striking out and walking three batters. The Colts collected 12 hits in the game, Kerzner and Anzovino each collected three hits for the Colts, Grant collected two hits in five at bats and Michael Fontaine paced the way drawing three walks.
Game 2.
The Colts and Hawks played game two of their four game series on Monday April 21st at Rockland Community College. The Colts fall to 0-2 against the Hawks after they were unable to keep up with the Rockland as the final score stood as 5-2.
The Colts got on the board in the first inning after Brian Saldana singled scoring a run, the Colts would soon add another point to the board after the heads up play by the speedy infielder Jadin O'Neil who got an amazing jump and was able to steal third base after reaching second due to an error by the pitcher. Jadin would come around to score after an overthrow to third base to give the Colts the 2-0 lead.
After four innings of tied score the Hawks broke the game open scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to give them a 4-2 lead. Unfortunately the Colts were unable to even the score and suffer the loss.
Evan Johnson started on the mound for the Colts and took the loss. The starter went for 6.2 innings surrendering four runs on six hits, striking out four and walking two. Saldana, Atwell and Williams each collected a hit for the Colts. The Colts were running wild on the base path as they stole five bases, Jackson Atwell led the way stealing three bases.
Lastly the Colts hosted the Hawks on Sunday April 27th for a cloudy afternoon double header. The Colts would lose this game after suffering a big third inning where the Hawks scored six runs, as the final score stood at 9-0.
Despite being held scoreless in game number three the Colts finished the game with six hits, Jadin O'Neil led the way for the Colts after going three-for-four at the plate. the Colts also turned the games only double play. Anthony Borromeo suffered the loss in this contest. The right handed hurler threw for three innings giving up eight runs on nine hits, striking out three and walking none.
In the final game of this conference series the Colts take the loss after being outscored 9-1. Rockland got on the board first in the top of the third inning and showed no signed of stopping as they would continue to score four more runs before the inning had ended. The Hawks scored eight runs in three innings as it was enough to brush past the Colts.
Brian Saldana took the loss for the Colts, the right handed pitcher wend four innings, giving up seven runs on six hits, striking out four and walking three. Grant, Saldana, Nixon and Gargulio each collected one hits for the Colts. Saldana finished a perfect 1-for-1 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in.
