Blue Devils Keep Winning Streak Alive

The Kansas City Kansas Community College men's basketball team decimated the Labette Community College Cardinals, 85-49 Feb.5 at Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kan. The Blue Devils only allowed the Cardinals to lead one time with 18:34 remaining in the first half.

Manuel Martinez had a career night shooting 8-11 from the field, 1-1 from behind the arc and finished with a team-high 19 points, a career high. Along with that, he recorded four rebounds, three steals and two assists. Jeremiah Lewis was right behind him with his 15 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals. BJ Stewart and Pierce Ross came off the bench and combined for 23 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Ross also had an electrifying steal and dunk on the Cardinals side of the court to ice the cake in the second half. Israel Randle had a team-high five assists and finished with six points. KCKCC remains in second place in the KJCCC behind Johnson County Community College.

For the game, the Blue Devils shot 35-73 from the field (47.9%), 10-28 from three-point range (35.7%) and 5-8 from the free-throw line (62.5%). The Cardinals shot 20-64 from the field (31.3%), 3-18 from three-point range (16.7%) and 6-8 from the free-throw line (75%).

The next game for the Blue Devils is against the Johnson County Community College Cavaliers at 4 p.m. Feb. 8. The game will be played at JCCC in Overland Park.
