Newark, NJ - The Women's Basketball team began its two game road trip Saturday at Howard Community College, winning 55-44 and picking up Head Coach Jahreal Cadogan's first career win. The first half was a defensive showdown between both teams, with Essex taking a 24-18 lead at halftime. Howard came out to start the second half with suffocating defense, limiting the Wolverines to seven third quarter points. The Wolverines came out flying and determined in the fourth quarter; hitting shots and creating their own suffocating defense to win the game. Both teams played defensive style games and forced the other to a poor shooting night, evident by 26.8% shooting for the Wolverines and 24.2% for the Dragons.
Mia Marie Thomas led the Wolverines in scoring with 18 points, Basirat Amirashaun led with 8 rebounds and Natallie Fonseca with 3 assists.
The Wolverines (1-1) return to action Sunday Nov. 10th at Prince George County Community College.(noon tipoff)
