Mott opens season with four at Kaskaskia

CENTRALIA, Ill. - The Mott Community College baseball team opened the 2025 season with four games at Kaskaskia College over the weekend in Centralia, Ill. 

After a rough start with two losses (12-1, 11-1) in the opening doubleheader on Friday, the Bears battled in the opener of two on Saturday, but fell 4-3. Kaskaskia closed out the weekend sweep with an 8-2 win, as Mott dropped to 0-4 on the season. 

Friday, Game One Inside the Box Score:

  • Nathan McDonald had the team's lone extra-base hit, eventually scoring on a sacrifice fly from Luke Trotter.

  • Talan Pickens finished with one hit. 

  • Tucker Webb (0-1) got the start and was charged with the loss. He pitched 0.2 innings, allowing five runs, three earned, on three hits, while walking two and striking out one. 

Friday, Game Two Inside the Box Score:

  • Brady Flanigan recorded one hit and the lone Mott RBI, scoring McDonald, who reached on a single.

  • Trotter, Ethan Wills, and Reece Jones each added a hit. 

  • Jack Legree (0-1) started and took the loss. He went 2.1 innings, allowing 10 runs, five earned, on five hits, while walking two and striking out three. 

  • Brady Tobias tossed 1.2 innings, allowing one run on one hit. He walked one ans truck out four. 

Saturday, Game One Inside the Box Score:

  • McDonald finished with one hit, two walks, and a run scored. 

  • Luke Dupuis reached base in all four plate appearances, with one hit and three walks. 

  • Trotter added a hit, a run, and an RBI.

  • Conor Sweeny had a strong start on the mound, tossing five innings, allowing two unearned runs on one hit. He walked one and struck out eight. 

  • Hayden Vinyard (0-1) was charged with the loss in relief. 

Saturday, Game Two Inside the Box Score:

  • Bryce Neitzel recorded a double and an RBI. 

  • Ryan Metz added one run, one RBI, and two walks. 

  • Eagan Demers and Devon McKervery each added a hit. 

  • Darion Amico (0-1) took the loss after starting. He went 2.1 innings, allowing seven runs, four earned, on five hits, walking one and striking out two.
