Lady Warriors Drop Late Battle to Coahoma in Narrow Loss

Decatur, MS-The East Central Community College Lady Warriors fell short in a hard-fought contest against the Coahoma Lady Tigers, dropping a 56-50 decision on January 21, 2025. The game on their home court featured a resilient performance by the Lady Warriors, but a late surge by Coahoma proved decisive.

East Central started slowly, managing only six points in the first quarter and trailing 13-6 at the break. The second quarter saw the Lady Warriors begin to find their rhythm offensively but still entered halftime facing a 26-19 deficit.

Both teams responded strongly in the third quarter, scoring 14 points each. East Central showed flashes of brilliance on both ends of the court. Despite their efforts, Coahoma maintained a slim lead heading into the final quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the Lady Warriors surged back with 17 points, led by standout performances from Kelviana Parhm and Mikayla Holifield. Parhm, who finished with a game-high 19 points, hit three shots from beyond the arc, while Holifield battled in the paint to contribute 13 points and nine rebounds. However, missed opportunities at the free-throw line—where the team shot just 51.9%—proved costly.

Coahoma's balanced scoring attack, led by Jamaica Young and Cy'Nara Robinson, who each tallied 15 points, helped the Lady Tigers withstand East Central's late push. The Lady Tigers also capitalized on second-chance opportunities and solid free-throw shooting (54.5%) to secure the win.

Despite the loss, East Central showed great determination and effort, with contributions from key reserves like Sumeria Miller, who added 6 points in limited minutes. The Lady Warriors' defensive tenacity was evident, as they forced 23 turnovers from Coahoma while registering 12 steals.

The Lady Warriors will look to bounce back in their next outing as they travel to Utica, MS, to take on Hinds.
