
Northeastern Baseball Falls To Western Nebraska Community College In The First Of Four Game Series
Northeastern Baseball played Western Nebraska Community College on Thursday to start off the four game series against the Cougars, and ended up taking the loss 13-5. Carson Sauter was named the DDC Player of the Game. Sauter went 1-4 at the plate, hitting one home run, scoring one run and drove in two runs in the contest.
The Plainsmen tied the game up in the bottom of the third inning thanks to a walk by Tanner Peerey and a sacrifice fly by Max Valerio. Sauter homered to to right field, which helped Northeastern tie the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Plainsmen took the lead in the bottom of the fifth. An error scored one run to make the score 5-4. The Cougars flipped the game on it's head in the top of the seventh, scoring 5 runs on 5 hits, to make the lead 10-5.
Cameron Ochoa started on the hill for the Plainsmen. Ochoa went 5.2 innings, giving up 5 earned runs on 6 hits, walking four batters and striking out four batters. Matt Yarish ended up taking the loss in the contest. Yarish went 1.1 innings, giving up 5 earned runs on 6 hits. Deacon Trenkle threw 1.2 innings, giving up three earned runs on four hits, walked one batter and struck out two batters. Jared Tameling threw .1 innings. Sauter led the team with two runs batted in. Brayden Stufft went 2-4 at the plate to lead the Plainsmen in hits.
