Two wins this evening at Bosque River Ballpark gave the fourth-ranked McLennan Highlander the series sweep of the #12 Temple Lady Leopards.
McLennan took the opener -5 with Landrie Harris picking up the win in the circle.
The Highlanders exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the third. Tehya Pitts reached on an error, and Mickayla Tosch and Trinity Allen both singled, loading the bases. A fielder's choice by Macie Jansky scored Pitts. A fielder's choice by Aynsli Lawson score Tosch and put Allen out at third. Ally Thompson singled, scoring Jansky, and Ellie Loveless singled to score Lawson. MJ Nicholson followed with a three-run homer.
Temple scored four in the top of the fifth. Marli Kennedy led off with a solo home. Marleigh Manns tripled, and Ma'Rya Quarles was hit by the pitch. Lily Garcia followed with a three-run homer.
McLennan added two runs in the sixth as Allen singled and scored on Nicholson's home run.
The Leopards rounded out the scoring with a run in the top of the seventh. Angie DeLeon and Garcia both singled. DeLeon was out at the plate on a double by Delgado. Reese Cottrell then singled to score Garcia.
In the nightcap, the Highlanders defeated the Leopards 5-3 with Addyson Canfield going the complete game in the circle.
McLennan began the scoring with a run in the first. Pitts doubled, Tosch walked and Allen singled to load the bases. Pitts then scored on a sacrifice fly by Lilli Piersons.
Two more Highlander runs scored in the second. Nicholson hit a solo home run to center field. Garcia then tripled and scored on a double by Tosch.
Temple got on the board in the fourth. DeLeon singled and advanced on a ground out by Garcia and fly out by Delgado. Quarles then singled to score DeLeon.
Another two Highlander runs scored in the fourth. Pitts and Tosch both singled. Allen then reached on an error, scoring both runners.
The Leopards added a run in the fifth. Lexi Dudeczka doubled and scored on a single by Cottrell.
Another Temple run scored in the seventh. Cottrell doubled and was replaced by pinch runner Abby Drabek. Drabek then scored on a single by DeLeon.
